Hi Everyone! :)
First of all, I would like to thank our representatives for the Essay Writing and the Reading Challenge. :D You all did well. ;)
Next, the following will be the schedule of our classes this coming week. For sections I and N, I am arranging some make-up classes for us so we can cope with the schedule I initially set for us. We have to do this because: for section N, we did not meet in class the previous week (Monday - Mass at Fort Pilar for Cory Aquino; Wednesday - Holiday); and for section N, we did not meet last Wednesday.
SECTION D:

Thursday, August 13 (class period): First Part of MIDTERM EXAM on Skimming and Scanning
SECTION I:

Wednesday, August 12 (10-11AM): Review Session for Midterm Exams - VENUE will be announced later

Tuesday, August 11 (3-4PM): Review Session II - VENUE: PROBE ROOM, COllege of Education Office
Wednesday, August 12 (class period): First part of MIDTERM EXAM on Skimming and Scanning
***Check your exam schedule for the SECOND PART of the MIDTERM EXAM.
POINTERS for Midterm Exam:
1. Skimming
2. Scanning
3. Modes of Paragraph Development (8 Rhetorical Modes: Narration, Description, Illustration/Example, Definition, Comparison/Contrast, Division/Classification, Causal Analysis, PROCESS ANALYSIS)
4. Topic Sentences (Stated and Implied)
5. 5-step process to paragraph development
6. Text Organization:
Arranging sentences to form a paragraph
Arranging paragraphs to form an article
7. Paragraph Writing (Review use of transitions and organization of ideas)
I sent you an email (EMAIL ME IF YOU DID NOT RECEIVE ONE: lei.labrador@gmail.com) I attached a review material for your consumption (especially on Modes of Paragraph Development). READ and PRACTICE on your own. This is just an ADD-ON to your study. Do not JUST focus on this. I expect you to study the handouts we used and discussed in class.
Do well! :)
Smiles,
Lei Labrador

Riot
You have nice outputs about your mothers. :) I found out, though, that some did not write a blog entry... This week's blogs will revolve around the theme: MOVIES. Attack the theme any way you want.
I left a photocopy at the photocopying center nearest the College of Education for you. The title is: THE WRITING PROCESS... Make sure you have already read it before coming to class next meeting. Bring your QNB.
Do not forget to bring the manila paper, markers, scissors, and adhesives for your group. This will be used in our group activity next meeting. :)
Cloud 9,
Lei Labrador

Reveille
Hi everyone. :)
First of all, I would like to congratulate all those who won in the apple-orange write-on-my-back-and-I-will-decipher-what-it-is game. :) I'll see what small something I can give all those who won. :P
Blogs this week must evolve around this subject : MOTHER. (I got the theme after reading the story of Ben Carson, which you should have a photocopy of.) You can discuss anything about mothers (their love, anger, dreams, role in your life, role in the society etc.) You may talk about your own mother or grandmother or mothers in general. Or if you are a mother yourself, you can talk about motherhood. :) Again, you do not need to write a very lengthy blog. What I count the most is the meat you put in it.
VERY IMPORTANT: As you write your new blog entry (on MOTHER), PLEASE DO NOT CLICK CREATE NEW BLOG. Simply click NEW POST under your blog so that the URL you gave me will not change. :) Hereafter, you shall write your blog entries (required of our class) as NEW POST under the blog URLs you initially made. :)
I will meet you next meeting in CDCH (that's Carlos Dominguez Conference Hall, located at the left wing of the ground floor or LRC building). We will have our library orientation there. You should not be absent because our class beadles (Hi Anjo, Cindy, and Nikki) will check your attendance there. :)
Make sure you already photocopied everything that needs to be photocopied. :) We will use the story written by Ben Carson in class next week. Bring your QNB.
If you do not seem to receive any email from me and if there are questions, please email me (lei.labrador@gmail.com). Indicate your name and your section so I know how to specifically address your queries.
Love ( that's so mushy...),
Lei Labrador
Nota Bene (N.B.):
A good friend of mine writes substantial blogs. You might want to take a look at occupyspace.blogspot.com

For next week...
Hi guys. :)
We had a week of reading tests. Whew! Next week, we'll formally start our reading and writing activities.
During our first meeting next week, we will delve on the reading process. For this, I left two sets of photocopy handouts at the photocopying center nearest to the College of Education office. (One - long bond papers, "Active Reading"; the other - short bond papers "The Reading Process") Please photocopy both and read them before coming to class. :)
Also, we'll start the "reporting" of the "checkers" next meeting. So checkers, please be ready with your summary and report. :) I hope everyone already made a blogspot account and wrote a blog on our theme, "Me? A Bookworm?" I have read a few. Very interesting. :)
Make sure you register yourself as a follower of our "homesite": engl111.blogspot.com
so that I can constantly communicate with you and check your blogs. :)
To those who came in just this past week and you still have no blog group, please notify me in class next meeting. You have to be in one. :)
Another thing, we will have a quiz next week on the Sesquicentennial primer. No quiz notebook (QNB), no quiz. :)
For sections N and D: To those who have problems with the class SRA schedule, please give me a copy of your most convenient sked (for SRA) next meeting. I will insert you in other classes. :)
To section I: we will agree on an SRA schedule next meeting.
To those who have not taken the APT (the reading test we had during the first meeting this week) and the CEM Reading Test Level 3 (the reading test we had during the second meeting this week), please visit the Testing Center next week. You MUST take the said exams. :) Don't fail to bring a pencil with you.
If there are queries, email me or see me at the SLA faculty workroom.
I am looking forward to a fruitful semester with everyone. :)
See you around!
Love (cheesy!),
Lei Labrador

First Blog Entry
Hi. :)
Our first blog entry will revolve around this: ME? A BOOKWORM?
Go, work on your blogs. It depends on how you attack the subject. Your blogs do not need to be long. Short entries will do. Just make sure they are meaty enough. :)
As I announced in our classes, I will randomly read ten entries per class. I may or may not leave a comment. :)
If there are questions, comment. Or email me: lei.labrador@gmail.com
Next week, we will have Reading Aptitude Exams during our class periods. See you. :)
